Chapter 6 - Eulogy

In the cold and foggy morning, the earth is crying, mourning the loss of a great man. The funeral of Benjamin Rabinowitz is attended by a lot of people, mainly students. The man has no immediate family, but he was loved by many. Jenna Dayton stands in the rain, under the sea of black umbrellas. Her eyes are swollen from too much crying. The tears and the raindrops melt together, streaming down her face. The pastor recites a eulogy for Benjamin.

“Benjamin Rabinowitz is one of the greatest men I’ve known. Although a doctor and a professor, he doesn’t act like one. I find him really easy to talk to, very down to earth, and lovable.   I believe that many of us have been touched by his generosity and kindness. I am very deeply saddened with this news; especially he was taken so sudden from all of us. May the Lord keep his soul, and may we remember him as we continue our live. Let’s continue his aspiration to bless others during this short stop in this planet”

The caretakers begin to lower the casket, and Jenna bursts into tears again, and collapses. Her friends bring her to the side and put her on the chair. Some of her friends are trying to comfort her to no avail. Somewhere behind the trees, a shadow observes the whole thing. It seems that it’s walking toward the funeral ground, hesitates, moves back, and then disappears to the thicket of the forest.

Jenna is sitting quietly in her apartment room. She stopped crying, looking at the photo album with Ben. She opens it one by one, reminiscing the time she spends with him. She touches some of the photos with deep sadness. “He’s gone….I can’t believe he’s gone...” Suddenly she remembers the thick envelope that Ben gave her before his trip. Jenna keeps it safe in a hollow space under her dresser. She takes it out, opens it up, and put everything on the table. The first item is an old Leather bound book with this symbol on the cover:

Next, it’s an odd looking compass with a combined red and blue crystal as its needle, and finally, a small envelope with a letter from the professor with “Jenna” written on the envelope. She opens up the letter, and begins to read it

Dear Jenna,

If you are reading this letter, chances are I am no longer walking in this earth. Many of my colleagues have been murdered, one by one. And I am afraid that my time is up. I am sorry to involve you in this colossal battle. But I see no other way out.

I am a member of Temple Guardians, a secret society that has been entrusted with a task to find Zuriel, keeper of the scroll of end of days. Zuriel now has amnesia, thanks to Lucifer Four. We have no clue of his current whereabouts, but some of us are zeroing in where he is. That is why the devil now is in panic mode and trying to kill all of us. The only device we can use to track him is the Angelus-Diablo Compass. It can pinpoint the exact location of a devil or an angel within a certain radius. The red ruby will glow when devils are around, and the blue topaz will glow when angels are present.

I won’t talk about much the details here. The rest of the information you can read in the Book of Angels, the thick leather bound book I included in the envelope.

We need to gather the other pieces of Manna Crystals to retrieve his full memory. This is very important, as without his full memory we won’t be able to locate the exact location of the scroll of end of days.

Jenna, the fate of the world may end up in your hand. I know I didn’t make the wrong choice.

Good luck, God speed.

Ben.”

The moment she finishes reading the letter, someone’s knocking at the door…
