Chapter 8 – The Stranger at the Door

“Knock knock”

Jenna just stares at the door, unable to move. The AngelusDiablo compass glows red, and the ruby end points at the door.  “A demon?” she says to herself. Slowly, she gets up. She begins walking backward, her eyes at the door. She doesn’t know what to do. Should she answer the door? Or just pretend that she’s not home?

The knocks have become bangs now; they’re getting louder and more intense. Jenna is afraid. Very afraid. Just as she backs up, a hand comes from behind and cups her mouth. She’s ready to scream. The person behind him whispers “Don’t scream. I believe there’s a demon at the door”

3 hours earlier
Vincent finds at least a dozen Jenna Daytons in the phone book.  “Man...I thought that is not a common name” Vincent mutters. He tries to look it up in the computer that the voice gave him. Yes, this is a stupid idea. But Vincent doesn’t know that. He opens up his browser, and type “Jenna Dayton, Berkeley”. As expected, more results coming in. He thinks really hard to narrow the search. And then, he tries “Jenna Dayton, Benjamin Rabinowitz, Berkeley”. Then he comes across a blog. Jenna’s blog called “Ben and Jen” A lot of pictures of Jenna and Ben. To think that this might pose a problem with the university, but Ben’s reputation might let him get away with a lot of things. Vincent can see how close she is to Ben. The various places the pictures were taken. The fun and weird poses they have on each picture.  “This is going to be hard to explain to her.” Vincent lets out a big sigh. At that moment, Vincent begins to see flashes of a huge shadow. Fire. Spears. Shield. Darkness. He opens up his eyes, and then mutters in his breath “Ah, crap…”

The AngelusDiablo compass now glows at both ends. The ruby and topaz needle is now swaying wildly to the left and the right. One thing that Jenna finds a little bit of a relief is that the blue end points to her back.
“Can I let go of my hand now?” ask the person. Jenna nods. The person lets go of his hand. Jenna turns her head. She sees a well-built, tall, unshaved man with the eyes as blue as the ocean. Jenna is mesmerized.
“How did you get in? I didn’t hear you at all.” she asks him.
“Through the window. You left it open.” answers the person.
“But this is the 10th floor, and there is no fire escape! “
“Um, I got skills that I don’t know I have until a few days ago”
“Who are you?”
“I go by Vincent. But I might be someone else.“ Jenna stares at him with a puzzled look.
“Get behind me” Vincent moves in front of Jenna.
The bangs stop. Suddenly the door bursts open. “CRRRASSSHHH !!!!”
A big guy emerges from behind the door. He has to be at least 7’2”, with a wide body frame. He’s so big, that the door can barely fit his body. He has to bow to enter the apartment. He glares intently at both Jenna and Vincent. His eyes are like a lion that hasn’t been fed for days; hungry, full of murderous intent. With a deep voice, he speaks “It’s been a while…Remember me?”
